Every person has to undergo a relocation experience at least once in lifetime and reason could be anything new job, new home, promotion, or a transfer .

I moved to 6 places in my 8 years of marriage, as my husband is a banker and we stayed maximum 2 years at one place. I met many friends and collegues who always complains about hassles of shifting.

I am sharing some tips from my experience for an easy and stressfree move.

 # 1. First Step is to hire a good moving company

Shifting is a tedious task for an individual. Good moving company will relocate your stuff safely as they are professionals. There are many moving companies and you can select one according to your budget.  

# 2. Get some boxes of different sizes from grocery/liquor shops 


Visit your local grocerry shops and ask them for unripped and very gently worn boxes. Use these boxes to hold light weight items.

# 3. Sort things in different categories

Pack your stuff not by room but by category like if packing stationary then collect all your stationary items and pack in one place, if packing clothes then spend your time in sorting every article of clothing you own.   

# 6. Get rid of Unused and Unnecessary items 


The more you discard unused and unnecessary items from your home, the less stuff you'll have to pack, load, unload and organize.

You probably have some items you no longer want, but would love to get some money for, then set those items aside and find out where you can sell those items. Your old furniture, electronic appliance, kitchen item you can sell your unwanted stuff .

# 9. Least Used Room Pack First


Start from guest room, pack all the wall hangings and other decorative items.

# 10. Keep your toolbox handy

You will need your toolbox on the moving day as well as before and after. Put all essential tools in your box like screw driver, pliers, nails, hammers etc. 

# 11. Label all boxes


Labelling the boxes will help you find your stuff easily and accurately. Label the sides as well as top of the boxes by categories such as bed room, kitchen etc .

# 12. Pack clothes before moving company arrives 


Separate your clothes, put your heavy party wear clothes and casual clothes separately before the moving day, it will save a lot of time and you can move hassle free as already there would be lot of work on that day.

# 13. Pick right moving day


Start planning early your moving day , avoid national holidays and weekends, as weekends would be busiest for moving companies.  For installation and uninstallation  of  electrical and electronic devices you will be needed services and on national holidays most of the service centers might be closed.

# 14. Keep old clothes handy

Put some old clothes in a bag for cleaning your new home. Old clothes can be helpul in arranging new home so keep some old clothes in a separarte bag .

# 15. Pack decorative items few days before


One week before pack all the wall hangings, delicate decorative items, mirror framed items. Place them safely in between quilts or wrap them in bubble wrap. .

# 16. Pack a personal bag

In a bag pack your personel bellongings like two pair of clothes, Deo, moisturiser, tissue paper, toiletries, towel, some medicines. These items would be helpful when your all the stuff is packed.


# 17. Pack some ready to eat food

If you are moving with kids then its highly possible they feel frequent hunger pangs, so keep some ready to eat food along with you like biscuits, fruit cakes, chips etc.

 

# 18. Stop buying grocerries a week before

Do not fill up all the grocerries in the month you decide to move, although keep pulses, oats, poha, semolina, oil, ghee, spices etc. in small amount to use, so that you don't rush to the market at the time of unloading and unpacking.

Before uninstalling your electronic devices like LED, music system etc. Click picture of connections.The cable connections attached to these electronic devices are very complex and easily forgettable, its better to have picture of connected cables.

# 20. Clean your bathroom supplies 

In case you are planning to use your old bathroom bucket, mugs and other supplies then you won't like to bring dirty buckets and stools to your new home, so clean them thoroughly before shifting.

# 21. Keep your cleaning supplies aside  

You will need cleaning supplies in your new home, keep them aside by labelling box and make an entry in squeaky clean house.

# 22. Keep Plastic bag in your Purse

Use a transparent plastic bag for small or big screws, keys, small USBs and other important items.

# 23. Defrost fridge a day before

Who wants a smelly and dewy fridge in a new home ? 

No one. 

Thoroughly clean and defrost your fridge before moving to new home.
